Keep America Beautiful's Grants Program provides opportunities for certified affiliates in good standing to apply for and receive a variety of grants. In 2012, over one million dollars of grant funding is available for community improvement, beautification, greening, waste reduction and recycling. 2012 KAB/Waste Management Think Green Grants
How do you Think Green? We want to know, and we want to help you make your community’s greenest dreams possible. Waste Management, North America’s leading provider of comprehensive waste and environmental services, is again joining forces with Keep America Beautiful to encourage local solutions that showcase your environmental stewardship and community improvement efforts through grants from Waste Management. Grants will be awarded for programs that will improve communities, increase local recycling, or expand public education related to recycling. Ten $10,000 grants will be awarded.
What will your community do? That’s up to your creativity, but sample projects could include anything from recycling programs to creating a community green space, to starting a youth environmental club. Grant awards will recognize KAB affiliates’ most innovative or comprehensive programs and partnerships to improve business areas, neighborhoods or public spaces; or to increase recycling or recycling education in their communities.
Applications are due by June 15, 2012.
Winners will be notified before August 2, 2012. Projects must be completed by June 3, 2013. Project wrap up reports are due by July 3, 2013.
KAB Affiliate Eligibility: 1) KAB certified affiliates in good standing are eligible to apply. Grants Criteria: Grants will be awarded to the best proposals that show:
- Creative and/or comprehensive concepts for community recycling infrastructure or public education (public education projects; collection systems at schools, home or retail establishments; community drop-off programs; or expansion of an existing curbside program).
- Creative and/or comprehensive concept for community renewal and/or beautification (makeover for a park or a section of a neighborhood, downtown business area or any community area, or clean-up of an illegal dump site).
- Evidence of sustainability of the project after grant funding terminates.
- Use of partnerships to leverage the scope, size and duration of the project.
Graffiti Hurts Grant Application
Deadline: June 15, 2012 (11:59 pm EST)
The Graffiti Hurts® National Grant Program aims to help communities kick-start or add to a local graffiti prevention program. Grant funds may also be used for a one-time project that has the potential to significantly reduce graffiti in the community.
Grants will be offered to communities in three population categories - community under 75,000 population, community between 75,000 and 250,000 population, and community over 250,000 population. Grant funds must be used for projects that begin by Fall 2012 and are completed no later than December 31, 2013.
For the 2012 program, six grants will be awarded: four cash grants of $2,500 each; two paint product grants from Sherwin-Williams valued at $2,500 each; and one FlashCAM from Q-Star Technology valued at $6,100. Proposed projects can address graffiti prevention and education, rapid removal, or help to enforce local anti-graffiti laws. Programs that focus on graffiti prevention initiatives, including Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), and engaging and educating youth are encouraged. Businesses that make or operate graffiti removal equipment or technologies are not eligible.
All applicants will be notified of status by September 12, 2012.
Grants will be awarded to applicants that meet the following criteria*. The proposed project will:
- Contribute to a comprehensive effort to prevent graffiti in the community.
- Implement an innovative or proven technique to address graffiti prevention.
- Help educate the community about graffiti prevention.
- Involve community partners, and encourage adult and youth citizen volunteers.
- Help develop a sustainable graffiti prevention effort.
*Grant funds may not be used to pay in full for items such as cameras, equipment, personnel salaries, prize money, etc.
Any of the following groups are eligible to apply for a Graffiti Hurts® grant:
Nonprofit, Civic, and Community Organizations Includes neighborhood groups (e.g., Neighborhood Watch), crime prevention associations, civic clubs or organizations, and other nonprofit groups.
Youth Groups/Schools Includes any group of youth such as Girl/Boy Scouts, 4-H, Girls/Boys Clubs, YW/YMCAs, and students in a class, grade or school club.
Government Agencies Includes city, county, state and federal government agencies, or subdivisions within these agencies (e.g., department of public works), and police departments or other law enforcement.
